Beautiful Altadena; The Rose will Bloom Again

9 minute read

On January 7th 2025, the Eaton Fire spread far and wide across the unincorporated community of Altadena, destroying over 6,000 homes and taking the lives of many. I went back over spring break in March to document the aftermath.

Despite everything that night happening so quickly, I remember it all; from seeing the start of the fire, to evacuating to my dads work, to eventually coming back to check on our home. There was so much fear and panic in the air- it was like nothing I had ever experienced before. While we were extremely lucky, nothing was fair that night. Altadena, you were the most beautiful community. You brought joy and life to so many people in so many different ways. Everything about you was wondrous and magical. From the small farmers markets, to summer concerts in the park, you truly gave those who lived within (and nearby) your all. It was hard for me to see you go. Even though I grew up just down the street from the Altadena/Pasadena border, I still felt tremendous loss. After seeing the aftermath for the first time, I truly realized that the memories are something I will treasure forever. I feel so incredibly lucky to have been one of the many who has those moments to reflect upon. Thank you Altadena.
